happy 4th of july, everyone! we are having a wonderful day hanging out at home. it’s been lazy and just what we needed as a family. i got to sleep in and the boys have spent all day outside playing with their magic sand. i got some tie dye kits from target on clearance and we just finished an epic tie dye session! we are all so colorful (we don’t need no stinkin’ gloves!) it looks like a bunch of hippies live here!
anyway, i hope you and your families have a fantastic weekend! stay cool and Happy Birthday, America!
things have been crazy around the house over the last six weeks and i have not been posting like i have wanted. the holidays tend to stress me out as it is, but with everything going on, it’s been a bit more stressful than usual. holiday decorating is not my favorite, but the boys love it and i do it anyway. right now, it looks like christmas threw up in my house and i can not wait until january, when i can put it all back away in the garage and have a fresh, clean house!

pFriem beers on our way to the fleetwood mac concert in portland before thanksgiving
red cross turkey trot on thanksgiving morning
first snow of the season
hand lettering my chalkboard door is about as into christmas as i like to get
realized this is the first time we’ve taken the boys to see santa!
making soft things for loved ones for christmas
contrary to common belief, elves are grown ups and enjoy a beer now and then (santa would never use child-elf labor!)
ballast point bloody mary and my favorite hopworks hoodie on tree decorating day (they don’t carry the one i’m wearing but this one is similar.)
jack jack the pirate king
i hope you are weathering the holidays.
sundays are our family day. our lazy day. the one day a week we are all home together. sundays are also the day christopher and i get the most time to practice our music. he plays his guitar and i sing. we’ve been playing a lot more lately, it seems. i guess that’s one good thing about me not being at work as much. sometimes i think i want to start booking gigs, but that still seems like a pipe dream.
today was filled with practicing new (to us) songs, some morning wine drinking with good, good friends and lots of giggling and silliness coming from the boys. these are the days i live for. those golden days of summer when you haven’t got a care in the world.
how do you fill your weekends? i’m heading off to eat some homemade ice cream that christopher churned up yesterday and to drink a little more wine. it is sunday after all…
the last few nights we have been going on walks around our neighborhood with the boys after dinner. now that they are out of school for the summer and we moved their bedtime up (it gets dark so late here in the summer) and the weather is glorious right now, it is the perfect time to have a little stroll around our neighborhood.
we live about ten blocks from downtown kennewick and it’s not too far for the boys to walk. plus, it’s a great way for them to expend some energy before bath and bed!
they like to pick up their “walk treasures” and we come home with leaves, dandelion fluff, rocks, pinecones and often, bugs. jack brought home a caterpillar last night. harry decided that if he hid in this tree we would not be able to see him.
this is one of the things i love best about living, as my friend says, “in the dreamy part of kennewick.” her description is perfect. it is gentrified, laid-back (we see lots of neighbors sipping wine on their front porches as we walk by) and everyone is super friendly. harry and jack like to yell, “hey man! how’s your day?” to everyone as we pass and everyone always answers them.
do you love your hometown? what is your favorite part of where you live?
last week was the last week of the boys’ first year in preschool so i’ve been busy and a little weepy. here are some snapshots from the last week or so around the house. from the top:
we had a gorgeous rainstorm the other night that resulted in a beautiful double rainbow / some of the flowers in our newly planted front flower beds and pots / harry in the garden / the boys first day of preschool compared with their last / i can’t get enough of this sweet little ginger kitten! / the boys cousin gave us a spiderman costume, so we are marvel-ing out every day / hanging with my “gnomies” that the boys got me for mother’s day.
i’m off to eat mac ‘n’ cheese in the backyard and play with the boys on this gorgeous afternoon.
it’s photo dump time. i don’t have a lot to say right now (i’m struggling with some stuff that i’ll talk about a bit later) but for now, here are some pictures from the last couple weeks…
from the top: one of the cool signs at my work / chillin’ w/the supers / the coolest batman. ever. / just two wild and cra-azy guys / my garden before we planted it on sunday / silly selfies with harry / jack jack just being jack jack.
have a happy rest of your week.
